If emails are an important part of your online correspondence with business associates or family members, you may be better off using a mailbox with your very own personal domain name and an email service provider that supports the POP3 and IMAP email delivery protocols, instead of using a web-based email service that involves restrictions as to the maximum size of the attachments. Thus, you will be able to check your mails on any desktop or mobile device using any application – Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, and so on. With the IMAP protocol, you will be able to view the email messages at your end, but they will be on the server at all times, whereas with POP3, all emails will be downloaded to the device, unless you choose a copy to be saved on the mail server. Besides, you will be able to use a lot of other handy options – contact groups, calendars, and so on, not to mention that in case there’s a temporary predicament with your Internet service, you can still examine your emails as they will be on your desktop or handheld device.
